Imagine you get $10,000 from the bank. You have to pay the money back later.

• The bank lent me $10,000.
• I borrowed $10,000 from the bank.

Lend is often used with to:

•  Maria lent her pencil to Daniel.

Borrow is often used with from:

•  Daniel borrowed a pencil from Maria.

If you need to use your friend’s car, you say:

“Could you lend me your car?”
“Could you borrow me your car?”
