Today’s word of the day is shirk – this is a verb meaning to avoid or ignore work or responsibility.

It has a negative connotation like you’re lazy; you’re avoiding doing things you should be doing. If employees shirk their duties, they might be fired from their jobs. Or children might shirk their chores by not cleaning up even though their parents asked them to do it several times.
