Future: Will / Won’t – Part 1

You can use will / won’t for future predictions.

Example:

  • The world’s population will reach 10 billion in the year 2050.

Examples: Predictions for the year 2050.

  • In the year 2050, we will have flying cars.
  • In the year 2050, there won’t be any more war.
  • In the year 2050, people will live until they are 100 years old.
  • In the year 2050, countries won’t fight against each other.
  • In the year 2050, everyone will speak at least three languages.

With will, it’s common to use the short forms:

  • I will –> I’ll
  • You will –> You’ll
  • He will –> He’ll
  • She will –> She’ll
  • It will –> It’ll
  • We will –> We’ll
  • They will –> They’ll

Examples: Thinking about next year

  • Will you get a promotion next year?
    Yes, I think I will!

  • Will they win the lottery next year?
    Maybe!

 

You can add a question word at the beginning.
A common question word to use is When:

  • When will you get a promotion?
    Next year, I hope.
  • When will he travel to the U.S.A.?
    Next week.
  • When will the economy improve?
    I don’t know.
  • When will we buy a house?
    In 2015.
