Use the present continuous to talk about things happening now, at the moment.
Positive
To form the present continuous positive, use subject + (to be) + verb + -ing
I | am | watching TV. |
He / She / It | is | watching TV. |
You / We / They | are | watching TV. |
Examples:
- “What are you doing now?”
“I am cooking.” - She is studying at the moment.
- It is raining.
- We are thinking about you.
- They are playing baseball.
It is common to use the contracted form:
- “What are you doing now?”
“I’m cooking.” - He’s studying at the moment.
- It’s raining.
- We’re thinking about you.
- They’re playing baseball.
Be careful! Some verbs are never used in the present continuous:
like, want, need, believe.
I’m believing in God.
I believe in God.
She’s wanting a soda.
She wants a soda.
