Present Continuous – Part 1

Learn English Verbs - Present Continuous
She's studying physics at the moment.

Use the present continuous to talk about things happening now, at the moment.

Positive

To form the present continuous positive, use subject + (to be) + verb + -ing

 

I am watching TV.
He / She / It is watching TV.
You / We / They are watching TV.

 
Examples:

  • “What are you doing now?”
    “I am cooking.”
  • She is studying at the moment.
  • It is raining.
  • We are thinking about you.
  • They are playing baseball.

 

It is common to use the contracted form:

  • “What are you doing now?”
    I’m cooking.”
  • He’s studying at the moment.
  • It’s raining.
  • We’re thinking about you.
  • They’re playing baseball.

Be careful! Some verbs are never used in the present continuous:
like, want, need, believe.

I’m believing in God.
I believe in God.

She’s wanting a soda.
She wants a soda.
